Independence Woman Car Shopping After $30,000 Lottery Win
A gift of Lottery tickets for her birthday began a weekend of fun for one Independence woman, culminating with a $30,000 prize. Michelle Vaughn turned 40 on Good Friday, and birthday presents from her uncle and husband included Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets. She used winning tickets from those gifts to buy more tickets on Saturday, which led to another purchase of tickets on Sunday. She purchased a Missouri Lottery “Royal Riches” Scratchers ticket at QuikTrip, 2321 S. Lee’s Summit Road in Independence, that revealed a top prize of $30,000.
“I had some tickets that were winners from my birthday. I went to cash them in. I had $5 in free tickets, so I bought a couple of $2 tickets and a $1 ticket. One of them was a winner,” she told the Lottery while claiming her prize on April 25.
As to how she chose the winning game, Vaughn said, “It just happened to be what he had.”
After returning home and settling into her recliner, Vaughn remembered the tickets.
“So I grabbed my purse, pulled the tickets out and started scratching them,” she recalled. “The last one I scratched happened to be a winner. I jumped up and danced around. I was pretty excited.”
Because her husband, Gary, was traveling for work, she had to share the news over the phone. Plans for the windfall may not wait either.
“I may spend it before he gets back. I’m about due for a new car,” explained Vaughn.
The milestone birthday may result in a new car and renewed faith in the Lottery.
“Definitely play. It’s worth your time and money,” Vaughn suggested. “I didn’t think so before, but I do now!”
” is a $2 game that officially began April 24. This is the first top prize of $30,000 to be claimed in the game. Six more top prizes, as well as more than $6 million in smaller prizes, remain in the game.
