A team of co-workers and regular customers at Morrison Bar and Grill has been selected as the Missouri Lottery’s April Team of the Month as part of the Lottery’s ongoing Captains Club promotion. Calling themselves “The Morrisonites,” they play darts together on Friday nights and Powerball on Saturday nights.
“One of the customers came in one day, and we were just talking about it,” said Lisa Lingenfelter, who works at the bar and grill and also serves as the team’s Lottery captain. “I played Powerball, she played Powerball, and so we said we should see if we can get everybody to go in together. Everybody said, ‘Sure, sure, sure…’ so it was just kind of one of those things.”
Since that time, Lingenfelter has kept records tracking who has paid for each drawing.
“I’ve kept all the paperwork and all the non-winning tickets and receipts since Dec. 5, 2009,” she laughed. “It’s a system!”
The Morrisonites include: Jana Birk, Kenneth Birk, Bonnie Broyles, Walt Broyles, Dave Elsenraat, Gary Haeffner, Bill Kuhn, Marilyn Kuhn, Lisa Lingenfelter, Jeff Lock, Brian Molloy, Greg Patton, Pat Polston, Allen Richardson, Delma Seifert, Mark Shanks, Shirley Shanks, Jim Stephan and Mary Lynn Toth, all of Morrison.
Each week, everyone in the group puts in $2 toward the Saturday Powerball drawing.
“If we don’t win enough to split, we put the money in for Wednesday’s drawing,” Lingenfelter said.
As far as why the group continues to play, she said it is just the hope that they could win a big jackpot prize that keeps them motivated.
“If we do win, we’re going on a cruise. We’re going to put a sign up here that says, ‘Closed. Sorry, we’re on a cruise,” she teased.
As the Lottery’s Team of the Month, “The Morrisonites” will receive a prize package of Lottery merchandise, as well as a feature on the Lottery’s official website. To tell us about your team, or learn more about any Missouri Lottery games, visit Molottery.com.
