New Shoes for $10,000 Lottery Winner, New Car for Mom
Ashley Fletcher of Mexico said she “would’ve been stoked with $5,” but what she ended up winning from her Missouri Lottery “100 Million Dollar Blockbuster” Scratchers ticket left her “in shock.” The 24-year-old almost didn’t buy the ticket that made her $10,000 richer.
“I didn’t mean to get that ticket when I bought it,” explained Fletcher, noting she had planned on buying a “MONOPOLY™” game at Xpress Mart, 1109 E. Liberty St., in Mexico. “I said the wrong number.”
Fletcher and her brother were standing outside of her vehicle when she began scratching the ticket.
“I couldn’t scratch off all the numbers, because my hands were shaking too bad,” she recalled. “My brother finished scratching it.”
The first-time Lottery winner immediately called her mother, Judy, to share the news.
“She didn’t believe us!” exclaimed Fletcher. “We had to take the ticket and show her.”
It’s been an exciting few weeks for the Fletcher family. In early March, Fletcher’s brother claimed a $1,000 Scratchers prize.
While claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, Fletcher surprised her mother again. In addition to treating herself to a new pair of shoes with her winnings, she intends to buy her mother an early Mother’s Day gift – a car. Fletcher’s mother had one thing to say about her plans, “Holy cow!”
