Columbia Man Collects $5,000 in 'MONOPOLY' Money

Story Photo audio icon A Columbia man is getting ready to take his wife on a weekend getaway after claiming a $5,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery “MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket. Fifty-year-old Mark Allen said he was at home when he scratched off the winning ticket he bought at Fast Lane, 2116 Paris Road, in Columbia.
“My wife gets a little upset with me,” Allen joked. “She’s jumping. She’s happy. She’s going! I don’t do that. Now, I do it later, and I get excited, but right at the moment, I’m just soaking it in a little bit.”
Allen added that the windfall “came at the right moment,” because he’s been hoping to purchase a vehicle. The Lottery loot provided the funds he needed to begin shopping. In addition to a car, he plans to pay bills and go “somewhere special” with his wife.

"MONOPOLY™," a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, officially began on Dec. 4, 2010.
