St. Louis Truck Driver Wins $50,000
A St. Louis concrete truck driver is the latest player to claim a $50,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery “Crossword” Scratchers ticket. Sherman Powell, 45, was retiring for the evening on March 18 when he scratched off the winning ticket.
“It seems like that’s when I have my best luck. When I’m relaxed,” explained Powell.
He had purchased two “Bonus Word Crossword” Scratchers tickets earlier that day at Grab N Go, 10633 New Halls Ferry Road, in Ferguson. The first ticket was a $10 winner, and the second surprise quickly altered his relaxed state.
“I jumped up and raced over to the place I purchased it from. He told me I needed to go to the Lottery office. I wasn’t quite sure then, but I am today,” said Powell when claiming the ticket on March 21.
Since the win happened on a Friday, the first-time Lottery winner said he was “on ice” all weekend while he waited to claim the $50,000 prize. Powell added that he would take some time to “let it cool off” before deciding how to spend the money.
“I don’t want to be impulsive,” said Powell. “It doesn’t happen often, if at all, in a lifetime. I want to sit quietly and listen to what God’s will is.”
Powell mentioned that real estate could be a potential use for the windfall. However he decides to spend the money, the Lottery experience had him on cloud nine.
“Even in the midst of a storm, it’s a nice day,” said Powell. “I’m feeling wonderful.”
Powell admitted to having some luck playing the Scratchers game recently, even though the $50,000 prize is by far his largest win. He expects to keep playing, citing this occurrence as “inspirational.”
“I would say that if I didn’t have any faith in the man above, I do now,” Powell declared.
“Bonus Word Crossword
” is a $3 game that officially began Feb. 5. The game features a top prize of $50,000, which, coupled with the game’s extended-play opportunities, makes it a regular favorite among Lottery players. Track prizes remaining for this and all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games here at Molottery.com.
