Stoutsville Man Surprises Wife with $55,000 Show Me Cash Ticket

When Ron Atchison called his wife, Sheila, at work and summoned her home for an emergency, she knew something big was going on. While he had assured her it wasn’t bad news, he asked her to come home immediately. Curiosity piqued, she made the drive not knowing that Ron was holding a Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash ticket worth $55,000.

“Holy mackerel, it seemed like it took her two hours to get home,” he laughed. “I was pacing the floor.”

When she arrived, he excitedly told his wife about the trip to scan his ticket from the March 23 drawing at a local retail store.

“After I scanned it, I put my glasses on and looked again,” he said of the surprising $55,000 prize amount displayed. “Everybody there wanted to see it get scanned, too.”

The Stoutsville man routinely buys five plays for each Show Me Cash drawing – the first set consisting of numbers he selects himself, followed by four Quick Pick selections.

“I just can’t believe I won this,” he said, still somewhat in disbelief.  “I told Sheila I was way overdue.”

Atchison explained that the win will allow the couple to keep a New Year’s resolution.

“On Jan. 1, I told her we were going to pay off the four-wheeler by the end of the year,” he said. “Well, that thing is paid off now!”

Enjoying every minute of their win, the couple stopped on their way to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City and, “just for fun,” scanned it one more time so Sheila could see it, too.

He also had a teasing comment for his sister-in-law, with whom he has a friendly competition to see who can win the most Lottery prizes.

“I’m ahead now, Diane,” he said with a smile.

Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases by at least $5,000 at each daily drawing.  Atchison’s winning numbers – 3, 11, 13, 16 and 19 – were a Quick Pick selection on a ticket he purchased at Break Time, 420 W. Monroe St., in Mexico.  It was the 133rd Show Me Cash jackpot-winning ticket since the game began on Sept. 8, 2008.
