Lottery Prize Sends Columbia Couple Cruising to the Caribbean
Kenneth Cook of Columbia said the $5 he paid for a “Missouri Lottery’s 25th Anniversary Cruise” Scratchers ticket was “the best $5 I’ve ever spent.” The lucky Lottery-enthusiast had a good reason to make the statement; he and his wife, Sandra, won an instant cruise prize worth more than $19,000 on the Lottery game.
Cook teased that, at first, he assumed he was holding “another dud” as he began scratching the ticket that he bought at Leisure Living, 817 Morley St., in Moberly.
“But the very last number said, ‘Cruise,’” he recalled. “I thought, ‘Oh, maybe this puts you in the drawing for the cruise.’”
After “doing some more checking,” he realized that his ticket was “the real deal,” and he and his wife were about to set sail aboard a Royal Caribbean International® ship.
When Cook showed the ticket to his wife, she said, “Well, it’s been five years since we’ve been on a vacation. I guess it’s time!”
The last vacation the Cooks took was in 2005 to Jamaica, where they watched one of their three children get married on the beach.
As for their upcoming cruise destination, he proclaimed that they’ve “already got everything all set up.”
“We’re going to the east Caribbean – St. Thomas and all that,” he shared. “We’re looking forward to it!”
