Bismark Woman Uncovers $30,000 Scratchers Prize

When Barbara Thorne cashed in her small winnings on a Missouri Lottery “Crossword” game, she decided to try her luck again by using the proceeds to purchase a couple of “Money Triplers” Scratchers tickets. As she left Irondale Food Mart, 113 S. Oak St. in Irondale, she had no idea that one of those tickets contained a $30,000 top prize.

It wasn’t until she got home that Thorne, 46, decided to scratch off her newest tickets.

“My boyfriend picked the one he wanted, and I scratched the other one,” she laughed. “Well, he won $2, and I won $30,000!

“He was sitting there with my future son-in-law, and I said, ‘Get over here right now and tell me if I see what I think I see,’” she continued, describing the moment she realized she was holding a $30,000 winning ticket.

Later, she shared news with family and friends at a birthday party.

“The nicest reaction I got was that it couldn’t have happened to a nicer person,” Thorne said. “And now we can get a new roof and a truck that runs.”
