Kennett Man Eyes the Caribbean after Lottery Win

Shane Nelson will set sail on a seven-night Caribbean cruise vacation after uncovering the luxury prize package on a “Missouri Lottery’s 25th Anniversary Cruise” Scratchers ticket. Nelson, 22, instantly won the cruise vacation for two aboard a Royal Caribbean International ship – the largest ships at sea – on a ticket he purchased at The Store, 1702 First St., in Kennett.

Nelson said he plans to take his girlfriend, Taylor, on the cruise but wasn’t able to reach her immediately to share the big news.

“I had to tell someone; I couldn’t contain myself,” he laughed, sharing that he next called his mother, who was “beside herself she was so happy” about his win.

While filling his mother in on all the details, Taylor returned his call, and he “ended up having to go get her so she could stare at the ticket, too.”

Ironically, Nelson had been looking into cruises – hoping to vacation with his girlfriend, as well as his mother and an aunt. With two tickets now taken care of, he said, “We’re already looking up prices for the other two!”

Nelson’s prize package, which is valued at more than $19,000,  includes an ocean-view balcony stateroom, round-trip first-class airfare, deluxe hotel accommodations the night prior to the cruise, ground transportation to and from the ship, a new set of luggage, $1,000 onboard spending credit and $500 cash.

A manager at a Flash Market in Arkansas, Nelson said he prefers Missouri Scratchers games because they “seem to hit better” than their southern counterparts.

Missouri Lottery’s 25th Anniversary Cruise" ticket is a $5 Scratchers game, offering top prizes of $75,000 and more than 25 instant-win cruise vacations. Details about remaining prizes for the game, which officially began Jan. 22, can be found at Molottery.com.
