Celebration in Store for Kissee Mills Couple
Fond memories of a childhood board game prompted a Kissee Mills man to make a purchase that changed his life. John Hill, 62, said he enjoyed playing “MONOPOLY™” while growing up, so he was excited to see that the Missouri Lottery offered a “MONOPOLY™” Scratchers game. After his shift ended at a Hollister resort on March 7, he stopped at Prime Time, 945 E. Highway 76 in Branson, for Scratchers tickets – one of which held a $50,000 top prize.
“When I got home, I sat in the car in the driveway and scratched the tickets,” Hill explained. “I bought five of them. I believe it was the third or fourth one that I scratched off, and it floored me.”
The first-time Lottery winner “couldn’t wait to get in and wake my wife (Karen) up.”
“She couldn’t believe it,” he recalled. “She said, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’”
After “a couple of hours sleep,” the Hills, who have been married for 28 years, claimed the prize at a Lottery office.
“It’s a life changing thing for us,” said Hill. “When we retire, it will help in retirement. And it just gets you a little bit ahead in life, which is nice.”
Hill added that the windfall will allow the couple to “pay some debts and put some money in the bank.”
“I feel great!” exclaimed Hill. “It’s my wife’s birthday tomorrow, so we’re going to do a little celebrating tonight. We’ll go out to dinner, and we’ll celebrate her birthday and our good luck.”
When asked to sum up the entire Lottery-winning experience, Hill said, “It’s just awesome!”
," a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, officially began on Dec. 4, 2010. To date, nine out of 10 top prizes remain in play.
