When Paula and Willie Bungart headed into a nearby convenience store, the Henley couple was merely looking to put some air in Willie’s car tire. However, when the pair left Dody’s, 7229 Heritage Highway in Jefferson City, they headed out the door with the first $25,000 top prize offered on a Missouri Lottery “Cash Frenzy” Scratchers ticket.
“I started screaming and hugging him,” Paula recalled of the moment she scratched off the ticket in the car. “I said, ‘Look at this; is this right?’”
The Bungarts drove immediately to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City where they claimed their top prize.
As far as what they’ll do with their unexpected good fortune, Paula said they have but one plan.
“We’re going to pay off bills.”
Willie echoed that sentiment as they walked out of the Lottery offices.
“We’re heading straight to the bank with this,” he said, smiling and pointing to the check.
More than $7.9 million in prizes, including eight top prizes of $25,000, remain unclaimed in the “Cash Frenzy” Scratchers game. The $2 ticket officially began Feb. 26.
