Rose Vasser’s goal was to buy a few groceries, but the St. Louis woman walked away from Schnucks, 1589 Sierra Vista in St. Louis, with a win big enough to keep her pantry stocked for a very long time. As she would soon discover, the “Take $100” Scratchers ticket she purchased at a Missouri Lottery vending machine inside the store held a top prize of $30,000.

“I just waltzed up there and was buying some tickets,” Vasser, 49, said of her routine stop at the instant ticket vending machine. “Wasn’t that neat?”

She took her Scratchers tickets home and was on the phone with her sister when she began scratching away the latex. It was then that Vasser realized what she had won.

“I said, ‘Get over here!’” she laughed, describing how she relayed to her sister what she had uncovered on the winning ticket. “There was a (money) stack that said, ‘WIN ALL,’ and I thought maybe I’d won $30, but those zeros were big, and it said $3,000 all the way down!”

Vasser, a long-time fan of Missouri Lottery Scratchers games, said she’s pretty certain she’ll invest at least a small amount of her winnings into new scratching opportunities.

“I’ll keep buying them. Maybe I’ll scratch up on something else,” she teased.

Remaining prizes for the “Take $100” game total more than $3.4 million.  The $2 Scratchers ticket, which officially began Nov. 23, 2010, offers a top prize of $30,000.
