A team of Ozark area co-workers has been selected as the Missouri Lottery’s March Team of the Month as part of the Lottery’s ongoing Captains Club promotion. The group, calling themselves “The Retirement Club,” has dreams of supplementing their retirement with a big Lottery win, pooling their resources together to play Powerball whenever the jackpot rises above $50 million.
“Your Web page states, ‘When you play, students win,’ and we are hoping that one time we can say, ‘When we play, teachers win!’” said team captain, Pam Schroder, explaining that the team consists of teachers and other school personnel. “While we all love our jobs, we are hoping to boost our retirement with a big win.”
The 14 featured members of “The Retirement Club” include: Judy Dewitt and Cheryl Sisco, both of Chadwick; Shelia Hoffman of Nixa; Lindsay Ash, Andy Cox, Julie Hunter, Terrresa McPheeters, Pam Schroder, Claudia Stephens, Preston Stringer, Nico Westfall and Abby Wright, all of Ozark; and Heather Aust and Shannon Witherspoon, both of Springfield. In addition to those pictured, Schroder said even more school employees typically get it on the fun. Not pictured are: Brenda Mills of Nixa; Christy Bevel, Kirk Chaffin, Sharon Harmon, Seth Jaeger, Jim Kinum, John Lasley, Dixie Walton and Dale Webie, all of Ozark; Bill Kern and Kimbra Kern, both of Sparta; and Jeanine Atwell, Josh Fish and Shawn Kellis, all of Springfield.
According to Schroder, the team began about five years ago with just two members, but as “teachers and co-workers heard us talking about it… and then I made an announcement before a faculty meeting,” it grew by leaps and bounds.
“We make a great team, because we love what we do, our students win in our classrooms every day, and we are having a great time playing to see if we can win!” she said.
And what would they do if they did win a large jackpot prize?
“If we won, then I am sure a lot of my co-workers are like me; we have a lot of family members we would love to help… put our children through college, pay off debts, and I bet each of us has a student whose family we could really help!” she added.
As the Lottery’s Team of the Month, “The Retirement Club” will receive a prize package of Lottery merchandise, as well as a feature on the Lottery’s official website. To tell us about your team, or learn more about any Missouri Lottery games, visit Molottery.com.
