Gentry Woman Opens Hometown Bar with 'Crossword' Cash

Story Photo audio icon A Gentry woman is $5,000 richer after uncovering the prize on a Missouri Lottery “Bonus Word Crossword” Scratchers ticket. Tracy Graham, 41, said she’s been playing “Crossword” for years, but she had never won more than a few dollars until now.

“At first, I thought I won $500,” said the mother of three. “My son looked it over, and he’s like, ‘Mom, there’s 10 words here.’ So, I won $5,000. I was shaking.”

In addition to using the funds to pay for an upcoming trip to Michigan, Graham said she will put the windfall towards paying bills at the Gentry Inn in Gentry, the bar she is opening with her two sisters this spring.

Graham purchased the winning ticket at Kum and Go, 3807 Miller St., in Bethany.

"Bonus Word Crossword," a $5 game with a top prize of $77,000, officially began on Dec. 4, 2010. "Bonus Word Crossword" is a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000.
