Honeymoon on the Horizon for Canalou Couple

Story Photo audio icon Rick Foraker isn’t going to stop playing his favorite Missouri Lottery Scratchers game anytime soon. The 56-year-old truck driver from Canalou said it wasn’t the $75,000 top prize that enticed him to start buying “Missouri Lottery’s 25th Anniversary Cruise” Scratchers tickets. He was more interested in winning one of the 28 instant cruise prizes, and that’s exactly what happened.

During a fuel stop at Break Time, 1302 S. Main St. in Sikeston, Foraker tried his luck on four “Missouri Lottery’s 25th Anniversary Cruise” Scratchers tickets.

“The first one I scratched off was the cruise!” he recalled.

His initial thought was that he “was reading it (ticket) wrong.” In addition to winning an instant cruise, he also won a $5 prize on another ticket. Excited and shocked, he returned to the store to claim his $5 prize and joke with the cashier about claiming the instant cruise prize.

“The cashier there, I know pretty well, I said, ‘I’d like to cash this one, but I can’t!’” he shared. “She looked at it and said, ‘Yeah, get out of the store!’”

Next, Foraker called his wife, Lavonna, at work – three times. When she was able to return her husband’s call, she let him know that she didn’t believe his story.

After a few minutes of convincing, his wife said she “had to hang up.” When he asked her why, she informed him that she “was going to go in there and tell everybody!”

With a laugh, the father of three added that he “had all kinds of volunteers” to go on the cruise. However, he has different plans. The Forakers, who have been married for 20 years and have three children and three grandchildren, never took a honeymoon after saying their vows two decades ago.

“This will be our honeymoon cruise!” beamed Foraker.

When asked if he’d continue to play his favorite Missouri Lottery Scratchers game, he exclaimed that he has “two $5 winners and a $10 winner out in the car right now!” He noted that he hopes to claim another instant cruise prize in the game and make that a second honeymoon.

"Missouri Lottery’s 25th Anniversary Cruise," a $5 game with top prizes of $75,000 and instant cruise vacations, officially began on Jan. 22.

Instant cruise prize winners will receive a seven-night Caribbean cruise vacation for two aboard a Royal Caribbean International® ship in an oceanview balcony stateroom, first-class airfare, deluxe hotel accommodations the night prior to the cruise departure date, ground transportation to and from the ship, a luggage set, $1,000 onboard spending credit and $500 cash.
