A Kansas woman’s monthly visit across the state line into Missouri ended with a $5,000 payday, thanks to a purchase she made at Stateline Pit Stop, 1738 W. 160 Highway, in Mindenmines.  The Missouri Lottery retailer sold a “5x the Money” Scratchers ticket worth $5,000 to Donna Hicks of Frontenac, Kan. on Jan. 27.

“I go buy gas, lottery tickets and cigarettes there once a month,” Hicks said, explaining her system of using winnings from the previous month’s Scratchers to buy new tickets each time she visits.

Having won $40 last time, she purchased 12 new Scratchers tickets and scratched them off in her vehicle outside the store.

“It didn’t take me long to get back in there,” she laughed as she recalled the moment she realized how much she had won.  “I had that whole place jumping.  Everyone had to look at it and feel it.”

Hicks called her daughter and the two made arrangements to claim her prize at the Lottery’s regional office in Springfield, formulating a plan to pay taxes and insurance with the unexpected payout.

5X the Money” is a $2 game that officially started Nov. 23, 2010.  Four top prizes of $25,000, as well as thousands of prizes between $2 and $5,000, remain in play.  Details about remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found at Molottery.com.
