Son Gives Kansas City Mom Winning Scratchers Ticket
What began as a frugal Christmas for one Kansas City family, ended as the “best Christmas ever!” Katherine Williams, 50, said her son gave her Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets as a Christmas present because he “didn’t have much money to spend.” He couldn’t have done much better than the “Jingle Bell Bingo” ticket he gave his mother. When Williams scratched the ticket on Christmas day, she uncovered the top prize of $50,003.
“We were sitting at the kitchen table and we were scratching off Lottery tickets, because he had some of his own, too,” Williams began. “At first, I thought I had the four corners and won $3,000. I was jumping up and down, and hollering and screaming. Then somebody looked at it and said, ‘No, you got the X. It’s $50,000!’ I had a fit.
“We were just laughing and screaming,” she added. “I thought I was going to faint. I’ve never won anything that big before.”
Williams said that her son, Chris, had asked for a television for Christmas, but she couldn’t afford to buy it for him. After learning that she won, she told him, “You can have your TV now!”
Other than that purchase, Williams said the money would be used to pay bills.
“That’s the best Christmas present I’ve ever had,” she said.
Williams claimed her $50,003 prize at the Kansas City Lottery office on Dec. 27. Her son purchased the ticket at Circle K, 4430 N. Chouteau Trafficway, in Kansas City.
“Jingle Bell Bingo
” is a $3 game that officially began Oct. 23. Non-winning holiday-themed Scratchers tickets can be entered into the “Hi-Tech Holiday” second-chance promotion until Jan. 4.
