Florissant Man Makes 'Pure Gold' Memories
A Florissant man’s decision to purchase a Missouri Lottery “Pure Gold” Scratchers ticket proved to be pure profit. Charles Rogers, 58, discovered he was $20,000 richer after finishing his shift at Schnucks Market, 10275 Clayton Road, in St. Louis.
“I was walking up the parking lot when I scratched it off,” said Rogers, referring to the moment he uncovered the $20,000 prize. “A co-worker was behind me, and I told her, ‘You’re younger than me. Take a look at this ticket and see if it’s a winner, because I think that I just won $20,000.’ And, she looked and said, ‘Yeah!’”
The first-time Lottery winner turned around and made his way back into the store to confirm the win with a cashier, who verified that he was holding a winning ticket.
His first thought was, “Merry Christmas!”
The father of three called his wife, Arlene, with the news, who left work early to claim the ticket with her husband at the St. Louis Lottery office.
“We’ve been married 28 years,” he added. “As a matter of fact, our anniversary is in a couple of weeks.”
The pair plans to use the windfall to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a weekend getaway.
As for the remaining funds, Rogers said they’re “going to give the kids some money.”
“I’m feeling good now!” exclaimed Rogers.
," a $5 ticket with a top prize of $100,000, officially began on Sept. 25.
