Macon Man Spells "Debt Free"

Story Photo audio icon A Macon man spelled words on a Missouri Lottery “Crossword” Scratchers ticket to win $50,000, but the most important words to him weren’t on the ticket.  Nathan Biswell, 34, said he would use the prize to become “debt-free.”

“At first I couldn’t breathe,” began Biswell.  “After I scratched off all the letters, I noticed I had multiple words on this ticket.  I matched all my letters up, and then we wrote all the letters to the words down.   Then I wrote all the words down and it gave me 11 words.  Of course, obviously, that’s the jackpot on this ticket:  $50,000.

“My main goal is to become debt-free.  That way, I’ve got that feeling.  I don’t have to worry about stressing over a payment.”

Biswell, who works three different jobs, said that he may splurge by taking a week off.  He’s employed as a Pharmacy Tech in La Plata and is part of the weather team at KTVO in Kirksville.  He also works part-time at Break Time in Macon.

He purchased the winning ticket at Circle K, 1702 N. Missouri St. in Macon, on Dec. 8.  Biswell stopped for gas while running errands on his lunch break and had $3 left over.  The store clerk suggested that he should buy the next “Crossword” ticket.

No stranger to winning, Biswell won $10,000 on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket four years ago, and he won $500 on “Crossword” just a few weeks ago.  As a loyal player of the game, his dedication has now yielded his biggest win to date.

“This $50,000 is going to look like a million to me, because I’m going to be debt-free.  I’m going to have money left over, and I’m going to make it grow,” said Biswell.

He added that his family would enjoy a “good Christmas.”

Biswell suggested that other players stick with the same ticket like he has with the “Crossword” game.  He also offered this advice:  “You’ve got to play to win, but play responsibly.  If you don’t have it, don’t spend it.

“Yesterday, my world changed,” he continued.  “You know, I could have gone on through Macon, and I’m going to tell you right now, somebody else would have gotten that ticket.  Things happen for a reason.  This is a good feeling.  Not everyone will get to do this in their life.  I’m very thankful.”

Crossword” is a $3 game that officially began Aug. 28.  The latest version of this popular game features 14 top prizes of $50,000, of which, five remain.  Players can track prizes remaining for this and every Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket here at Molottery.com.
