HOLDEN MAN TO AUDITION FOR "WHEEL OF FORTUNE" GAME SHOW
A Holden man will soon be flying to Hollywood to audition for a spot in an upcoming "Wheel of Fortune" television game show. James Young’s name was drawn Friday in the sixth and final Missouri Lottery "Wheel of Fortune" promotion drawing. The lottery received approximately 20,700 entries for the last drawing and a total of 90,900 entries throughout the promotion, which started in September.
Young, 60, said he watches "Wheel of Fortune" all the time, and he is looking forward to auditioning for the show. Young said he also won trips to Hawaii and Walt Disney World in previous Missouri Lottery promotions. Young is a supervisor for the U.S. Marine Corp.
The "Wheel of Fortune" promotion prize package includes a trip for two to Hollywood for four days and three nights, complete with airfare, hotel accommodations and airport/studio shuttle. Each of the six top-prize winners also received a check for $1,000 and a chance to audition for the "Wheel of Fortune" game show. Young’s audition date has not been set.
In addition to the trip and cash, the lottery will also pay 4 percent state and 28 percent federal withholding taxes on the value of the prize package.
If Young is selected to be a contestant on a future "Wheel of Fortune" game show as a result of the audition, he will be flown back to Hollywood for another complimentary three days and two nights stay to compete on the show.
The Missouri Lottery’s "Wheel of Fortune" promotion started Sept. 25, 1999, and ended April 14. To enter, players used non-winning "Wheel of Fortune" Scratchers tickets, watched the syndicated "Wheel of Fortune" game show and noted which television contestant won the game show on the date watched, along with the position of the winning player.
Young’s winning ticket was completed with information from the Feb. 16 show, which aired on KCTV, Channel 5, in Kansas City. Young purchased his winning ticket at Holden Package Store, 107 S. Pine St. in Holden. Young said he sent in approximately 75 entries for the sixth drawing.
Along with one grand-prize winner from each drawing, the lottery also awarded 1,350 Missouri Lottery/"Wheel of Fortune" T-shirts to participants.
