Palmyra Man Says Good Christmas is in Store for 'Uncle Sam' and Kids

A 59-year-old Palmyra man was “in shock” after uncovering a top prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket on Dec. 3. Reginald Porter said, “There are a lot of people who would like to play that trick on me!” So, he wasn’t sure what to believe when he saw the $100,000 prize on the “Merry Money” Scratchers ticket he bought at C&R Supermarket, 504 E. Ross St., in Palmyra.
Porter noted that he has a system when it comes to buying Scratchers.
“I usually buy $20 worth,” he explained. “I usually buy a $10 ticket and then two $5 (tickets).”
The system worked for the father of two and grandfather of four, who purchased a total of three Scratchers tickets. When he uncovered a $25 prize on one of the tickets, he thought it was “pretty good.”
“I thought that at least I got my money back,” he shared.
When he scratched off the next ticket, he realized that he had won his money back and then some.
“I have a little routine,” he said. “I scratch my top numbers off, and then I start at the bottom right hand corner. The first one I hit was $10,000. I thought, ‘It can’t be?’”
After learning that he had won a $100,000 prize, he drove home to share the news with his wife.
He joked that his “kids are going to have a good Christmas, but first Uncle Sam gets his Christmas.”
"
Merry Money," a $5 ticket with a top prize of $100,000, officially began on Oct. 23.
Non-winning “Merry Money” Scratchers tickets can be entered in the “Hi-Tech Holiday" promotion for a chance to win a $15,000 hi-tech makeover, cash and Scratchers tickets.
