Arkansas Woman Plays 'Tax Time' Numbers and Gets Pick 4 Refund
A Blytheville, Ark., woman said when her right hand starts to itch, it usually means one thing – she’s going to win. Silvia Banks, a 48-year-old self-proclaimed “lottery queen,” felt the sensation in her hand, played her special “tax time” numbers and ended up winning a $3,250 Missouri Lottery Pick 4 prize from the Dec. 1 drawing.
The owner of Silvia’s Beauty Salon in Caruthersville has been playing Missouri Lottery games since she opened her salon more than 20 years ago.
“I’ve been hot,” she said, referring to the last two weeks, when she won several Pick 3 and Pick 4 prizes. “I hit the 5-5-4-0 for $750. I hit the 5-2-9 for $500.”
In addition, she also hit 1-9-8-1 on the Dec. 4 drawing. As for her Dec. 1 win, Banks revealed one of her secrets.
“It’s tax time,” she noted. “I always play 1-0-4-0 around tax time!”
She added that when the numbers hit, her “lottery buddies” started calling.
“I don’t like for anybody to call and tell me the numbers,” she explained. “But, that particular day, this young lady said, ‘I’m calling you today, because I know you hit that!’”
As for plans for the windfall, the mother of three daughters, two of which are serving in the military, knows exactly what she’s going to do with the prize money.
“My daughter is getting married in August,” she shared. “I’m going to go ahead and send her the money for her wedding dress. My oldest daughter, 1981 was her birthday, so I told her that I am sending her $100. And, I’m buying the grandchildren’s Christmas gifts.”
With whatever is left, she plans to re-stock her beauty salon.
She added that the wins couldn’t have come at a better time, because both she and her husband of 18 years have been ill.
“I am just so excited!” she exclaimed. “I just got out of the hospital yesterday, and I am cancer free. I just thank God for all of his goodness and grace and mercy.”
In terms of advice for fellow Lottery players, she said, “You can’t win if you don’t play!” Banks intends to keep playing and winning.
“I’m going to hit the Powerball,” she proclaimed with a laugh. “You will see me back when I hit the Powerball!”
Banks bought the winning Pick 4 ticket at Southside Package, 1313 Ward Ave., in Caruthersville.
