A Franklin couple is heading into the holidays with an extra $10,000 in their pockets, thanks to a win on a Missouri Lottery “$200,000 A Year for Life” Scratchers ticket.  Ray and Toni Wells purchased the winning ticket at Casey’s, 328 6th St. in Boonville, on Dec. 2.

Ray, 54, said the win “came at just the right time.”  The couple plan to use the prize money to pay off property taxes and buy Christmas presents.

“I just picked the ticket randomly,” he replied, when asked why he selected that specific Scratchers game.

Having scratched the ticket in his pickup outside of Casey’s, he said he tried to call his wife to share the good news, but he was unable to reach her.

“I got a hold of my stepson and said, ‘Don’t tell Mom,’” he laughed.  “I had to tell someone!”

“He couldn’t hardly breathe; he couldn’t hardly talk,” Toni, 51, said of her husband’s reaction.

In fact, she said the whole experience “had the whole community buzzing.”

“I had someone ask me if they could just hold the ticket or take a picture of it,” she added with a laugh.

$200,000 A Year for Life,” which officially started Aug. 28, is a $20 game offering a top prize of $200,000 a year for life and a second prize of $50,000 a year for life.  Two top prizes five second prizes and thousands of prizes between $20 and $20,000, remain in play.
