Milk, Sausages and Scratchers: Rolla Woman Fills Up With a $5,000 Prize

Story Photo audio icon A Rolla woman needed a few ingredients for breakfast, so she stopped at a local convenience store for the necessities – a gallon of milk, sausages and a Missouri Lottery “Monopoly” Scratchers ticket.  Moments after Stacie Nash, 40, left Do Drop In, Highway 63 S. in Rolla, she realized that her breakfast would come with a side of dough.

“We were in the parking lot – me and my husband,” Nash began.  “He started scratching it for me, and he scratched the $2,500 one and two $500 ones, and I snatched it from him and scratched the rest of them!  We ended up with $5,000.”

The mother of four and grandmother of one joked that she engaged in a “play fight thing” with her husband over how the windfall would be used.

“My husband was all like, ‘Kids, Christmas and grandbaby,’ and I’m like, ‘No, let’s do the logical thing and pay some bills off,’” she recalled with a laugh.

After claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City on Dec. 6, Nash added that she was going to celebrate the win with family.

“I have my daughter and grandbaby with me, and we’re going to go to Red Lobster!” she said.

In addition to lunch plans, Nash noted that, “My last payment on our vehicle is in February, so we’re going to pay it off today!”

"Monopoly," a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, officially began on Dec. 4.
