Laura Walker of Wright City has stepped forward to claim a $10,000 prize after matching four out of five white-ball numbers, as well as the Megaball®, from the Nov. 26 Mega Millions drawing. Walker, a server at Rizzo’s in O’Fallon, presented her winning ticket at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office on Nov. 29.
She purchased the $1 Quick Pick ticket at Abel’s Quik Shop, 645 W. Service Road N. in Wright City, and checked it online the morning following the drawing.
“I had my husband re-check it and re-check it and re-check it,” Walker said, laughing about how she was certain she must have entered a number incorrectly.
Her husband, Don, verified that she was in fact holding a Mega Millions ticket worth $10,000 and pointed out that she was just one number away from winning the jackpot prize.
“But a bird in the hand…” she said. “I told him, ‘Oh my God, we just won $10,000!’”
According to Walker, she plans to use her Lottery winnings to help her daughter start a business. She said she also plans “to have a nice Christmas and get caught up on things.”
Like Powerball, Mega Millions players have nine ways to win in the multi-state game. With drawings held every Tuesday and Friday night, the game features a jackpot prize that starts at $12 million and continues to grow until someone wins it.
