Greentop Man Banks $10,000 Lottery Prize
A 21-year-old student from Greentop has claimed a $10,000 Missouri Lottery prize. Cory Eslinger purchased a $2 “Frosty Fortune” Scratchers ticket after class at the Moberly Area Community College satellite campus in Kirksville. He stopped at Shop N Go, 2700 N. Baltimore St. in Kirksville, and decided to try his luck.
“I usually don’t buy them that often,” explained Eslinger. “It was new, so I had to. The night before, I had played ‘Fast $50’s’ and won $50 off it. I went back in there the next night and was like, ‘That one’s new. I’ll grab it.’ Lucky me, I just got lucky on it.”
After uncovering the win in the parking lot, Eslinger called his mother to share the good news. She didn’t believe him at first.
“So I took a picture of the ticket and sent it to her. Then she started realizing that I wasn’t just pulling her leg,” Eslinger said.
His friend, Brittany Snow, and his cousin, Cassie Speaks, traveled with Eslinger to Jefferson City on Oct. 27 to claim his prize. He said he kept close tabs on the ticket in the interim.
“Pretty well kept it with me in my pocket all last night and today, so that way, I didn’t lose track of it,” said Eslinger.
“I’ve got some debt I got to pay off, kind of some back stuff I’m going to get caught up on. And then I’ve been working on a project with my car, so… and then whatever I have left, I’m going to be putting back.”
Eslinger said he was interested in joining the Missouri State Highway Patrol, so he would save some of the prize money for expenses related to training.
He added that he would still play the Lottery occasionally to “keep my luck going,” but he wasn’t overly optimistic about his recent good fortune.
“I got told I should play Powerball, and I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to push it,’” he said with a laugh.
” is a $2 game that officially began Oct. 23. The game features a top prize of $25,000, and non-winning tickets are eligible for the “Hi-Tech Holiday” second-chance promotion. Players can enter $10 worth of eligible Scratchers tickets for a chance to win $15,000 to be used for items such as big-screen televisions or other electronics.
