Morrison Man Wins $179,770 Playing Show Me Cash

Story Photo A retired Morrison man is planning to winterize his house before the cold weather sets in after he won $179,770 in the Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash game.  Elmer Phillips, 65, said he plans to get new windows for his home.

“I want to make it more efficient,” he said.  “The rest I will put into savings, and it’ll be there for my wife if anything ever happens to me.”

Phillips held one of two winning tickets from the Oct. 5 Show Me Cash drawing that matched all five numbers drawn to split the $359,540 jackpot.  Phillips purchased his winning ticket at The Village Market, 2092 Village Lane in Hermann, and he let the computer pick the winning combination, which was 8, 20, 23, 29 and 30.

The other ticket holder, Alan Cole of Rocheport, purchased his winning ticket at Patricia’s Foods in Columbia.  He selected the numbers himself.
When asked if he expected to win such a big prize, Phillips responded, “You expect it every day you play.”

Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases by at least $5,000 at each daily drawing.  Players select a set of five numbers between 1 and 39 or use the Quick Pick feature to allow the computer to randomly choose the numbers instead.  Phillips’ ticket is the 113th Show Me Cash jackpot-winning ticket since the game began on Sept. 8, 2008.
