Branson West Woman 'Drives Thru' to $24,000 Prize

Stacy Kious of Branson West had an interesting morning in a fast food drive thru.  What started as a simple quest for a breakfast sandwich ended with a trip to the Missouri Lottery’s Springfield regional office to claim a $24,000 top prize on a “Lucky Gold” Scratchers ticket.

Kious, 38, said she had begun the day with her normal routine.

“I go into the same gas station every day and get a fountain Pepsi and two $2 (Scratchers) tickets,” she explained.

She did just that on the morning of Sept. 21, stopping at Fast Freddy’s, 17993 State Highway 13, in Branson West.  She tucked her Scratchers tickets away and then headed to the local McDonald’s drive thru, where she scratched them off as she waited.

“Oh my goodness, I nearly had a heart attack,” she teased, recalling the event.

After uncovering the “lucky bar” symbol, signaling that she had won all the prizes listed on the ticket, Kious said, “I didn’t even care about my McDonald’s sandwich anymore; I just wanted to get out of there.”

She called her mother, who, coincidentally, was just a couple of cars ahead of her in the drive thru lane, and the two made plans to go claim her prize.

“I just started a new job yesterday,” she continued, laughing as she told of how she then went to her new boss to let him know she needed the day off to go claim her winnings.

“He was so excited for me,” she said.  “He said, ‘You do whatever you’ve got to do.’”

As far as how she will spend that prize money, Kious remains uncertain.

“I don’t know,” she said.  I’ll probably put some back for my two sons, but I am also going to do something fun just for me.”

“Lucky Gold” is a $2 game which officially started July 17.  Three top prizes of $24,000, as well as thousands of prizes between $2 and $4,000, remain in play.  Details about remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found at Molottery.com.
