Chili Dog Craving Lands Kansas City Man $20,000 Prize
Richard Decker of Kansas City had two things on his mind on Sept. 16 – chili dogs and cash. To satisfy his hunger, he stopped at QuikTrip, 2525 Burlington St. in Kansas City, where he purchased a snack and two "$250,000 Payout" Scratchers tickets.
"The first scratch-off was $10," he began. "I scratched off the next one, and it was $20,000!"
The first-time Lottery winner "couldn’t believe it" when he saw the prize amount while sitting in his car.
"I sat there for a minute wondering what to do," he revealed with a laugh.
After getting over the initial shock, Decker, 42, walked back into the store certain that "something had to be wrong" with his ticket.
"He (store manager) looked and said, ’That’s not a problem,’ and he gave me the information I needed to claim it," he explained.
Decker "went ballistic" after receiving confirmation that he was $20,000 richer. He was scheduled to work that day, so he drove to Faurecia Automotive Seating in Kansas City to "let all my co-workers know that I won $20,000, and I wouldn’t be there today!"
As for plans for the windfall, he will pay bills and possibly "invest in some real estate."
Decker added that he would also do one more thing with the prize money – buy more chili dogs.
"I never got to eat the ones I bought at QuikTrip, because I was too excited!" he shared.
," a $10 game with a top prize of $250,000, officially began on June 12.
