Fire Fighter 'Blown Away' by $113,542 Show Me Cash Win
It was a typical morning for Richard Case of Rolla until he logged onto his computer. The 50-year-old assistant fire management officer was about to head to Mark Twain National Forest in Rolla to start his workday. Before leaving the house, he remembered that he had a Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash ticket lying beside his computer from the Sept. 13 drawing.
"I looked at the Internet, and I went, ’Oh, my gosh, I hit that thing!’" recalled Case with a laugh, referring to the moment he saw that his random numbers matched all five Show Me Cash numbers, landing him the $113,542 jackpot. "I was kind of blown away!"
Case immediately began making calls.
"I called my girlfriend, and I called my boss, and I called my mom," he shared. "My boss understood why I was taking the day off to claim the prize."
The Missouri native has been living in California for the past 29 years.
"I moved back to the area in February to be closer to family and for a job promotion," he said. "Winning the (Show Me Cash) jackpot was a great welcoming gift!"
Case added that he bought his first Show Me Cash ticket the week before he won the Sept. 13 jackpot.
"I spent $20 on tickets overall, and I won $113,542," he noted. "That’s pretty good!"
As for how he will spend the windfall, he has a few ideas.
"I own a house in California, and I think that I will pay it off," he explained. "My girlfriend’s car could use some work, so I’ll probably help with that. I might put the rest towards retirement."
Case purchased the winning ticket at Discount Smoke Shop, 708 N. Bishop Ave., in Rolla.
