It wasn’t just the good company they were keeping that led to a fun night for Connie Dodd’s family at the local Eagles Club, 105 Shelby St., in Brookfield. After pooling their resources together, the group of six won $3,548 playing the Missouri Lottery’s Club Keno game.
Connie and her husband, Greg, along with her mother, Vaunda Clark, Greg’s father and stepmother, Clarence and Doris Dodd, and a family friend, Carol Knifong, routinely purchase Keno tickets together.
“Everybody pitches in,” Connie said, serving as spokesperson for the group.
It was her husband that watched the drawing on the monitor and was the first to realize they held a winning ticket.
“Greg told everybody to be quiet a minute while he checked things,” she laughed.
After the bartender scanned the ticket for confirmation, the group began to celebrate.
“We were just excited,” she said.
To play Club Keno, players choose how many different numbers (also called “spots”) they want to play from 1 to 10. Twenty numbers from a field of 1-80 are then chosen in a computerized random Club Keno drawing held every four minutes. Dodd’s group played a 6-spot game, and played the optional Bulls Eye feature to increase their prize amount.
When asked if they planned to continue playing Keno, there was no need for Dodd to consult the group for an answer.
“Well, yeah,” she teased. “We’ve been doing it ever since.”
