For Joe Clark, the year of his birth provided the winning numbers that led the Fulton man to a $3,125 prize playing the Missouri Lottery’s Pick 4 game.
“I play them everyday,” he explained, citing that he always uses some combination of the numbers 1, 9, 5 and 4 when making his Pick 4 selections.
The system paid off on Sept. 7, when his numbers were randomly selected during the evening drawing. Clark chose both the “straight” and “box” play types, which allowed the numbers to be drawn in exact order or any order.
It was on his way to work the following day that he stopped to scan his ticket and realized he was holding a winner.
“When it came up on there, I jumped up off the ground,” he said.
In fact, he was so excited that his wife, Carolyn, saw the commotion from outside the store and went inside to see what was going on.
“Saturday was our wedding anniversary,” he added. “This is our anniversary gift right here.”
Clark purchased his winning ticket at Casey’s, 2407 N. Bluff St., in Fulton.
