A retired bookkeeper from Kennett is the first Missouri Lottery player to claim a $10,000 prize from the “St. Louis Rams®” Scratchers game. Robert Todd was having coffee with friends at Junction, Highway 25 and B, in Holcomb. He decided to try his luck on the new $5 “St. Louis Rams®” Scratchers ticket, something he does from time to time during their morning meet-ups.
“I go in there and drink coffee or soda every day, just about,” began Todd. “I just happened to buy a few tickets, and the first one I scratched off was the winner.”
Todd, 63, said he chose the “St. Louis Rams®” ticket because it was new, but he was also interested in the second-chance promotion associated with the game.
“I had scratched off some Ram tickets earlier and didn’t hit nothing, so I thought I would try my luck again, and sure enough, it paid off,” recalled Todd.
Todd indicated that he would share the prize with his wife, but not because of what he did after discovering his largest Lottery win to date.
“I think I hugged a person there that wasn’t my wife; some other woman,” he said with a laugh.
Todd suggested that he might use some of the money to take a trip to Tunica, Miss., and explained why his wife, Terrie Jo, would be getting a cut.
“Well, my wife done kindly put a claim on it,” he said. “So, she’s probably planning on going shopping. I’m all right with it; she’s a pretty good old girl. We’ve been married over 40 years, so I guess she deserves it, putting up with me.”
“St. Louis Rams®” is a $5 game that officially began Aug. 28. In addition to winning up to $70,000 instantly, players can submit non-winning “St. Louis Rams®” Scratchers tickets into the “Gridiron Gold” second-chance promotion. During three drawings held between now and Dec. 14, players could also win prizes such as season tickets, an autographed St. Louis Rams® jersey, or the grand prize – a trip to a St. Louis Rams® road game on the team plane.
