'The Price Is Right' for Jefferson City Couple
After 37 years of marriage, Stuart and Sherry Bax of Jefferson City are still finding ways to surprise each other. Stuart gave his wife the most recent shock when he called to inform her that he was holding a $50,000 winning Missouri Lottery "The Price Is Right" Scratchers ticket.
The couple, both 57 years old, had "always hoped to win" the Missouri Lottery, but they never expected their dream to become a reality.
"I thought, ’Wow!’" said Stuart, referring to the moment he scratched off the top prize amount.
As for plans for the windfall, the manager of Bax Timbers in Jefferson City said, "Most of it is already spent." He explained that the funds will go towards "paying bills."
"We’re relieved and excited," added Sherry. "I was pretty surprised!"
Stuart purchased the winning ticket at Jefferson City BP, 718 W. Stadium Blvd., in Jefferson City.
"The Price Is Right
," a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, officially began on May 1.
The Missouri Lottery generates nearly $1 billion a year in sales and contributes more than $200 million annually to Missouri public education programs, including the A+ Scholarship Program, Special Education Excess Costs and Vocational Technical Schools.
