Hillsboro Woman 'Thankful' For $10,000 Powerball Prize
A Hillsboro woman’s optimistic outlook paid off with a $10,000 Powerball prize. Elyse Caine, 25, figured that if somebody was going to win, why couldn’t it be her family? The mother of two wasn’t expecting to match four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number from the Aug. 28 drawing, but that’s just what she did with her $3 Quick Pick ticket.
"I called my brother-in-law and asked him to check our ticket on his computer," she began. "When he said we won $10,000, we lost it! I kept saying one thing, ’Thank you, Lord,’ over and over again."
Caine, whose studying to becoming a neuropsychologist, said she is "extremely thankful" for the prize.
"We can finally get caught up on some bills," she added. "We’ll be able to get out of the hole we’re in right now. We’re so thankful and grateful that this happened to us. It’s a blessing."
In addition to paying bills, Caine’s four-year-old daughter had one request, which she plans on honoring.
"As soon as we said that we won the Lottery, she (daughter) said, ’Can I get another Kids Bop CD now?’" she shared with a laugh.
Caine purchased the winning ticket at Petro Mart, 698 Gravois Bluffs Blvd., in Fenton. The winning numbers from the Aug. 28 Powerball drawing were: 4, 22, 27, 32, 56 and the Powerball was 13.
