Lucky Numbers Lead Republic Woman to $225,336 Jackpot
A Republic woman has one more reason to remember her family’s birthdays and her anniversary. Not only are the dates already special to 55-year-old Aronda Decker, but she can now add that they directed her to a $225,336 Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash jackpot prize.
"I use the same numbers every week," Decker said. "They’re my kids’ and grandkids’ birthdays and our wedding anniversary."
Playing and checking her "lucky numbers" has become a routine for Decker, who has used the same combination of numbers for more than 10 years. Every Monday afternoon, the administrative assistant checks her Powerball, Mega Millions and Missouri Lottery Lotto and Show Me Cash tickets on her lunch break.
Armed with a handful of games, she stopped at Kum & Go, 638 United States Highway 60 E., in Republic. Initially, she didn’t think much of the amount that appeared on the screen when she scanned her Show Me Cash ticket from the Aug. 14 drawing.
"It said $225, and I thought it was dollars," she explained. "I laid it back on the desktop, and I reached over and put the Powerball in, and it didn’t say anything."
After going through the pile without seeing another winner, Decker double-checked the Show Me Cash ticket she previously deemed a $225 winner.
"I put the Show Me Cash back in, and it said $225,336!" she recalled.
She asked the store manager to scan the ticket to make sure she was "seeing it right."
"She turned around, and she was like, ’You won!’" she added. "I about fainted!"
Both Decker and the manager "couldn’t believe it" as they stood in the store discussing what the first-time Lottery winner should do next.
"Go straight to the Lottery office and let them verify it," the manager advised Decker.
The mother of three’s family was "really excited" when she told them the news – especially her son, who had a very important question for his mother.
"My son asked, ’Are we going to Hawaii for vacation?’" she recalled with a laugh.
Show Me Cash
offers a rolling jackpot starting at $50,000, which increases by at least $5,000 at each drawing. Decker was the 106th Show Me Cash jackpot winner since the game began on Sept. 8, 2008. To date, more than $13.9 million has been awarded in jackpot prizes.
