Jefferson City Man Spells Way to $50,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo It took a Jefferson City man more than an hour to believe his eyes on Aug. 14.  Steven Wolfe, 57, was buying gasoline at Bee Line Snack Shop, 2205 Southridge Drive in Jefferson City, when he decided to purchase five of his favorite Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets – "Crossword."

After scratching four of the tickets at his home without revealing a winning prize amount, he wasn’t expecting much from the fifth ticket.  He soon realized that he had saved the best ticket for last.

"I looked at it several times," he shared with a laugh, referring to the moment he revealed a $50,000 top prize.

The Modine Manufacturing factory worker and father of two said he will put his winnings into a certificate of deposit.  In addition, he might also "take $1,000 and go to the casino."

The Missouri Lottery "Crossword" Scratchers ticket enthusiast says that since the $3 game began on Feb. 27, he has been buying a few tickets a week.  To date, two $50,000 top prizes, as well as thousands of prizes ranging from $3 to $5,000, remain in play.
