Jefferson City Man Uses His Age to Win $3,000

Sixty-six-year-old Jefferson City resident Van Simmons likes to play the Missouri Lottery’s Pick 4 game.  He also enjoys playing the numbers associated with his age.  The combination ended up being “just the ticket” on Aug. 15 when the numbers 6, 6, 6, and 6 were selected in the evening Pick 4 drawing, leading Simmons to a $3,000 prize.

A daily Lottery player, he says he “doesn’t discriminate” and plays a variety of Missouri Lottery games.  He had even teased his wife with the possibilities of a potential win.

“I told her if we won a little extra money, we could go for all the crab legs we could eat when we go for our next doctor’s appointment in Columbia,” he laughed.

Simmons bought his ticket at Convenient Food Mart, 3714 W. Truman Blvd., in Jefferson City.

The Aug. 15 drawing marks just the third time in Missouri Lottery history that a set of quadruple numbers was drawn during a Pick 4 drawing.  The two previous times quadruple numbers were drawn in a Pick 4 drawing occurred during the evening drawing on Oct. 24, 2000, and during the midday drawing on June 26.  Coincidentally, it was the combination of 5-5-5-5 that proved to be a winner in both of those drawings.

Pick 4 drawings are held each day at 12:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.  The game began on Nov. 2, 1998.
