PLEASANT HILL WOMAN WINS $25,000 TAX PAID

A budget analyst will be making some adjustments to her own budget after she won $25,000 tax paid* playing the Missouri Lottery’s SHOW ME 5 game. Carol Browning, 44, won the game’s top prize when her ticket matched all five numbers drawn Friday night. Browning said she recognized the winning numbers listed in the newspaper Saturday morning. "Those are numbers I’ve played for a long time, but I still ran and got my ticket to check it," Browning said. Browning purchased her winning ticket at Price Chopper, 300 S.W. Blue Parkway in Lee’s Summit. She used birthdays and favorite numbers to select her lucky combination. The winning numbers were: 7, 10, 11, 25 and 27. Browning said she and her husband, Pete, plan to put their winnings in the bank. "We’ve never won anything like this before, so we want to make sure we think everything through before we spend it," she said. * Twenty-eight percent federal and 4 percent state taxes are withheld from the total prize amount of $36,764.70 to provide $25,000 cash at the time of redemption. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may receive a refund.
