Stop for Fuel Fills Tank and Pockets with $100,000 Prize
A Rock Port woman is $100,000 richer after claiming a top prize on a Missouri Lottery "Casino Cash" Scratchers ticket. Ellen Buttercase, 54, and her husband, John, were on their way home after visiting one of their three daughters in Hannibal for the weekend. Running low on fuel, the pair stopped at Macon Amoco, 1707 N. Missouri St., in Macon. While John filled up the gasoline tank, Ellen went inside the store and bought two Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets – "Casino Cash" and "Cash Line Bingo." She scratched off the "Cash Line Bingo" ticket first and won a $35 prize.
"I was excited that I won $35," she began. "I scratched the other ticket, and I thought I had to be seeing it wrong. I was shocked to see $100,000!"
Ellen showed the ticket to her husband, and he "didn’t believe it either."
To add to the excitement, Ellen noted that three years ago one of her children also won a $100,000 prize on a different Missouri Lottery Scratchers game.
"I called my daughter that won a couple of years ago with the news," she recalled. "She said, ’Mom, you’ve got to be kidding! Luck must run in the family!’"
The Buttercases kept the ticket "locked inside for safekeeping" at their home until they could claim the prize at a Missouri Lottery office.
As for plans for how to spend the prize money, Ellen said she will celebrate with her husband over dinner, and they will "use the rest for a down
payment on a new house."
"Whatever is left will go in the bank," she added. "It’s all still sinking in!"
," a $5 game with a top prize of $100,000, officially began on July 17.
