'Crossword' Ticket Yields $50,000 for Troy Woman

Teresa Crawford is a fan of Missouri Lottery “Crossword” Scratchers tickets, but the Troy woman couldn’t believe her good luck when she claimed one of the game’s top prizes of $50,000 at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office.

“I go every night to buy a ‘Crossword’ ticket,” she said of her purchase at Thoele Convenience Store, 1 Douglas Square, in Troy.   “I usually go to my parents’ house, then go to the store to talk to my friend, Rhonda, get my ‘Crossword’ ticket, and take it home and scratch it off before I take a shower and go to bed.”

Back home following her routine purchase on July 24, Crawford began scratching her newest ticket.

When she realized that the word “tie” was the 11th word she had uncovered, she rushed to share the good news with her husband, Shawn.

“I ran to my room, jumped on the bed and started screaming, ‘I won $50,000,’” she laughed.  “That’s how I woke my husband up.”

Crawford said they “haven’t really planned anything yet” for how to spend the prize money.

“Crossword,” ® a $3 game that began Feb. 27, features more than $3 million in available prizes.  Further information on remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be found at Molottery.com.
