The Missouri Lottery sends congratulations to “The Mailroom Mothers,” a group of Powerball playing co-workers, for their designation as the Lottery’s newest Team of the Month. As the official July team, the group has earned a prize package of Lottery merchandise and a feature at Molottery.com.
“The Mailroom Mothers” Lottery group is a five-member team that works to ensure the safety and security of all incoming and outgoing mail at an area prison. According to Pam Davis of Vandalia, who serves as the team’s captain, the women are accustomed to working together as a unit each day at work, so they “decided to try our luck as a team playing the Powerball about a year ago.”
In addition to Davis, team members include: Pam Kuda and Terri Wickles, both of Vandalia; and Amy Pasley and Carrie Spencer, both of Bowling Green.
Each member puts in $1.25 twice a week for Powerball drawings that occur on Wednesday and Saturday nights. All teammates select a set of numbers to play, and then one Quick Pick selection is added to finalize their purchase. So far, small winnings have been returned to the pool to buy extra Quick Pick tickets.
Davis cites the hopes of winning and being able to pay off bills or retire if they choose as the driving force that keeps the team playing week after week.
“All of us work hard on a daily basis, and winning would give each of us a chance to pamper ourselves in some way,” she said.
“It happens to others, why not you?” Davis added of the team’s guiding philosophy.
