O'Fallon Man Claims $10,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo audio icon An O’Fallon man who leveraged his $200 win into $10,000 said he will "spend it – very carefully."  Charles Eich was traveling home after an auction and decided to stop for ice cream on June 24.  One of his travel partners purchased a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket, so Eich thought he would try his luck, too.  He bought one ticket but didn’t win anything, so he decided to splurge on a $20 Scratchers ticket.  The "4 Million Dollar Cash Bonanza" Scratchers ticket he purchased at Ayerco, 304 U.S. Highway 61 South in Hannibal, was a $200 winner.  That encouraged him to buy one more.
"I said, ’Since I won $200, I’ll just take $20 out of that and buy me another one,’" recalled Eich.
The next ticket he bought was a $10,000 winner.
"I couldn’t see because it was dark, so I had my friend scratch it off," Eich continued.
His friend first told him it was no good, but then admitted that it won $10,000.
"I couldn’t believe it," said Eich.  "I thought he was messing with me."
After confirming his good fortune, Eich bought three tickets for each of the two friends that were with him.  He admitted that the money would probably be spent on his hobby – classic cars.
"I’m going to a government auction tomorrow, so I will be buying some cars I’m sure."
Eich said he has cars stored all over the country, and listed a few:  a ’46 Lincoln Continental, a ’55 Crown Victoria and a ’26 T Roadster, among others.  His son, Chris, also has a few cars including a ’64 Mustang GT, complete with a 600 horsepower NASCAR engine.
"We’re car poor," joked Eich.
Eich, who is retired, called himself a "dealer," but doesn’t have any plans to sell the vehicles, adding that he would part with them "when I’m dead."  He used to take them to car shows, but not lately.
"I drive them around, and that’s show enough," he said.  "I’m having fun with it."
"4 Million Dollar Cash Bonanza" is the Missouri Lottery’s first $20 Scratchers game.  The game officially began Jan. 26, 2008, and features a top prize of $4 million.  Seven prizes of $1 million and 2 top prizes of $4 million remain in the game.  Players can track prizes remaining for this and all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games here at Molottery.com.
