Hollister Man Uses Power Play to Pump Prize to $50,000

Story Photo audio icon A Hollister man used the Power Play feature to multiply his Powerball prize from $10,000 to $50,000.  Donald Eads, 59, was watching the local news when he realized he matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number from the June 16 drawing.

"I saw the six for the Powerball, and I knew I had the Powerball," he recalled, referring to the moment he saw the winning numbers appear on his television screen.

Eads immediately checked his Quick Pick ticket against the winning numbers.

"I couldn’t believe it!" said Eads.

He "didn’t sleep much" after learning the ticket he purchased at Hollister Food Mart, 1600 State Highway BB in Hollister, was a winner.

Eads plans to use the windfall to pay off his car and help out his daughter and granddaughter.

As for continuing to play Powerball, he said he will keep trying for one reason.

"I’m going to get the big one," he said.  "I know it’s coming.  I just don’t know when!"

Powerball is a multi-lottery game that features jackpots starting at $20 million.  For an extra dollar, players can select the Power Play feature to multiply their non-jackpot prizes between two and five times.

The winning numbers from the June 16 Powerball drawing were:  8, 11, 18, 29 and 36.  The Powerball number was six, and the Power Play number was five.
