Laundry and Lottery Win: Holliday Woman Cleans Up with $10,000 Prize

Story Photo audio icon A woman from Holliday will be taking a holiday after winning a $10,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket.

Before heading to the laundry mat, Veda Smith, 52, stopped at Abel’s Quik Shop, 719 S. Main St. in Paris, for a cup of coffee and a "$5,000,000 Cash

Extravaganza" ticket.  After throwing a load of clothes in the washing machine, she pulled the ticket out of her pocket to pass the time.

"I thought I was going to have a heart attack!" she exclaimed, referring to the moment she uncovered the prize.

The laundry session was cut short.  The grandmother of eight, who was babysitting two of her grandchildren at the time of her win, immediately drove to her daughter’s house to share the news.

When asked about plans for the windfall, she said something that yielded an excited, "Yes!" reply from one of her grandchildren.  She plans to take the whole family on a vacation to California.

As for playing her favorite Lottery game, she intends to keep at it, because, "I’d like to see that $5 million show up!"

"$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza," a $20 game with a top prize of $5 million, officially began on Jan 23.  The game features 13 prizes from $1 million to $5 million and offers more than $120 million in total prizes.
