Hermann Man Wins $6,000 Playing Pick 4

Story Photo audio icon A Hermann man who began playing Pick 4 "out of boredom" about a week ago has already won the top prize of $6,000.  Tyler Thurman purchased tickets for both the midday and evening drawings on May 24 at Casey’s General Store, 811 Market St., in Hermann.  Using a set of numbers he selected, Thurman matched all four numbers in the May 24 midday Pick 4 drawing in exact order:  4 - 8 - 2 - 8.
"I play Pick 3 and Pick 4 actually.  I just play the midday and the evening.  That way you get two chances," said Thurman.
Thurman didn’t need two chances on May 24.  He presented his winning ticket for claim at Missouri Lottery Headquarters in Jefferson City a few hours following the midday drawing.
"They were all even numbers.  I just went in there and filled them out.  Got lucky," Thurman declared.
The 30-year-old construction worker said that the prize money would be used toward his upcoming wedding, with a little money held back for a future vacation or hunting trip.
"I get married next weekend," said Thurman.  "We paid half of everything, pretty much, so this will really help out."
Thurman said that he would continue to play Pick 4, but he might give his numbers a rest.
"Buy a ticket at the right place at the right time.  It’s all it takes," he suggested.
