Overtime Leads to First-Time Lottery Win

Rhonda Armstrong and her co-workers often assemble at Arris Pizza & Pub in Fulton to unwind, and she says many of them enjoy playing the Missouri Lottery’s Club Keno game while they’re there.  Armstrong herself had never played the game, but she thought the extra bucks in her pocket from recent overtime hours made it “more justifiable” to join in on the fun on May 19.  That fun paid off to the tune of a $5,445 win for the first-time Keno player.

“Everyone else plays it, why can’t I do it?” the Fulton woman said, recalling her thoughts leading up to the win.

“I had a co-worker sitting next to me making fun of me because I didn’t know how to fill out the form,” she said of the game’s playslip.

To play Club Keno, players choose how many different numbers (also called “spots”) they want to play from 1 to 10.  Twenty numbers from a field of 1-80 are then chosen in a computerized random Club Keno drawing held every five minutes.

Armstrong quickly decided on a 6-spot game and solicited a little help to determine her number selection:  6, 13, 15, 21, 46 and 63.

“I asked my boss, Jim, to give me a number, and he said ‘Six.’  Then I asked Sandra, who was up from corporate in Baton Rouge, and she said, ‘13.’  Then I picked 15 for my son’s birthday, 21 because I really enjoyed being 21, 46 for my age and 63 for the year I was born.”

Scanning her ticket a little later, Armstrong said she “could not believe it” when she realized she had won more than $5,000.  She called her husband, who later joined the group at the pub located at 61 W. 2nd St. in Fulton.

“I bought a couple rounds and appetizers and just grinned the rest of the night,” she said.
