O'Fallon Man Honors Mother-in-law With Win
Juan Cuellar believes his deceased mother-in-law may have been watching over his family last weekend. On Saturday, Cuellar took his family to visit the grave site of his wife’s mother, Daisy. They left yellow roses and said some prayers in her name. The next day, on Mother’s Day, he purchased a Missouri Lottery "The Price is Right" Scratchers ticket and won $25,000.
"I think my mother-in-law sent us some help," said Cuellar. "I definitely do."
Cuellar, 57, is a construction contractor and said that work has been slow this year. He encouraged his wife, Barbara, to ask for a blessing while visiting her mother’s grave. Cuellar bought the winning ticket while taking his own mother home after hosting Mother’s Day lunch. He went to Circle K, 2035 Highway K, in O’Fallon, to purchase a newspaper and a Lottery ticket.
"I usually buy the ’Crossword’ (tickets). But this one just caught me and looked different, you know," Cuellar said of "The Price is Right" ticket.
Later, Cuellar said he scratched the ticket in tandem with his wife.
"My wife was around, and she started scratching it," recalled Cuellar. "I kind of said, ’Hey, that’s my ticket!’ I did one, and then she did one, and we kept uncovering stuff."
"It really was kind of miraculous."
"The Price is Right,"
a $3 game that officially began May 1, features a top prize of $50,000.
