Dinner Date Simmers with $50,003 Dessert

Story Photo audio icon A Bloomsdale woman might have had the best dessert of her life on April 28 – free of calories and filled with dollar signs.  Vickie Sprinkle, 51, was enjoying an evening dining with her husband, Robert, when she remembered a ticket was resting in her purse.

Earlier that day, while the couple was running errands, she asked her husband to "drive down to the filling station and grab me a ’Bingo’ ticket and a couple of (Missouri) Lottery tickets – Mega Bucks, Missouri Lotto and Powerball."

It was during dinner that she decided to scratch the Missouri Lottery "Bingo Multiplier" Scratchers ticket that her husband purchased at Bloomsdale 66, 290 Mill Hill Road, in Bloomsdale.

"I thought, ’Oh, this is a loser,’" she began.

After looking more closely, she believed that her ticket held a $100 prize, and she noted that she was "so happy" about that prize amount.  She was about to become even more overjoyed, because moments later, she realized that she had actually won the top prize of $50,003.

"I was shaking, and I was crying," she shared.

Sprinkle, who said she was "nervous" carrying around the winning ticket, called it an early night, and tried to get some rest until she could claim the ticket at a Lottery office the next day.

She plans to "get out of debt and then fix the house up a little" with the windfall.

"Bingo Multiplier," a $3 game with a top prize of $50,003, officially began on Dec. 25, 2009.
