State Worker Turns $5 Winnings into $10,000 Lottery Prize
A Bowling Green man was feeling lucky on April 17 when he won $5 on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. Ronald Huber, who is about to celebrate his 40th birthday, decided to try his luck again, and he returned to Leroy’s 63 Mini-Mart, 1963 Highway 63, in Westphalia. Hoping for an early birthday present, he bought a "Silver 7’s" ticket and began to scratch it in the store.
"I couldn’t believe it," he began. "It was a $10,000 prize. I took the ticket to the clerk to check if I really won."
It was a restless weekend for Huber, because he had to wait until Monday to claim his prize at a Lottery office.
"I gave the ticket to my mom to keep it safe," he revealed.
The Missouri Department of Corrections State employee said while he was waiting to claim his prize, he "called everyone I knew" to share the news.
"Nobody believed me at first," he added over laughter. "Everyone told me, ’it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!’"
Huber said his win "is a great birthday present!"
He noted that he was happy about the $5 win, but the $10,000 prize is "really exciting."
